Dylan Lim conducting

Dylan Lim is a Singaporean conductor, music educator, and bass trombonist.

His musical journey began with the Saints Symphonia at St. Andrew’s Junior School, shaping a foundation he later expanded at St. Andrew’s Secondary School and Nanyang Junior College. During these formative years, he studied under several esteemed conductors—including Tan Beng Wee, Benjamin Yeo, Sebastian Koh, Tarun Jayaram, and Gavilan Neo. Recently, in 2026, Dylan was awarded the ARSM Diploma in Music Direction with Distinction. To further hone his craft, Dylan has participated in conducting masterclasses with distinguished figures such as Dr. Robert Ambrose, Peter Stark, and Hirokazu Amakasu.

He also co-founded the youth-led Re:Cinta Wind Symphony, serving as its Music Director from 2023 to 2026 to spearhead ambitious, well-received projects such as Chamber Explorations I and the Re:Cinta in Concert series.

In 2027, he started Mirazo Wind Orchestra (formerly Dylan Lim and Friends). As their conductor, he hopes to perform more regional works, support young composers, and programme pieces that aren’t frequently performed in Singapore.

As an active performer, Dylan has played bass trombone with numerous regional and international ensembles, including the TCU Horned Frog Marching Band, TCU Symphonic Band, Ventus Band, Band Directors Association (Singapore) Wind Orchestra, Rondo Fest Orchestra 2023, Kids Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Australian Honours Ensemble Programme Wind Orchestra.

His performing career has since taken him to multiple countries such as the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia. He credits his performing foundation to his first trombone teacher, Samuel Armstrong from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Deeply passionate about education, Dylan works closely with young musicians. He has served as an Assistant Band Instructor at Montfort Secondary School and Hillgrove Secondary School. As a member of Ventus Band, he also mentors students from Band Academy Singapore.

Beyond teaching and performing, Dylan is a strong advocate for new music and emerging Singaporean composers. Through his recording initiative, Dylan Lim and Friends – Music Making Vol. 1 and 2, he aims to promote Singaporean wind band compositions to a global audience as well as empower young composers. The albums, now available on Spotify and other major streaming platforms, feature the premiere recordings of pieces by young composers such as Chew Jia Yuan and Pierre Alexandre Meur.

Dylan is presently pursuing his Bachelor of Music Education at Texas Christian University, studying bass trombone under Dr. David Begnoche and Dr. Jeanette Velasco.
